Our aims are simple, we want:

^

A clean and healthy river

^

An end to ALL pollution

^

The Wye to be restored to its former health and glory

^

Immediate government action to protect the river Wye

Save the Wye

Save The Wye is an informal group of citizens on both sides of the Welsh border who want to do something to help save the Wye and its tributaries from environmental destruction.

We support and are supported by a network of individuals and organisations working to protect and restore the health of the river Wye and its tributaries. This network includes Friends of the River Wye, Citizens of the River Dore, Save the Lugg, CPRE Herefordshire, CPRW The Welsh Countryside Charity and Herefordshire Food Alliance.

We created the Save the Wye campaign to raise public awareness and to call for immediate action to stop the pollution and restore the river.

The pollution is primarily from the proliferation of IPUs (Industrial Poultry Units) in the Wye catchment. This is compounded by the lack of regulatory action being taken by agencies that are charged with the river’s protection.

We need people power to protect our rivers!

Manifesto for the Wye – “The People’s Plan”

The manifesto calls on the governments of the UK and Wales to establish a single, cross-border approach to tackling the pollution crisis across the Wye catchment. It also demands the establishment of a Water Protection Zone, enforcement action against polluters, financial support for farmers to transition to river-friendly farming and action to empower consumers with honest labelling.

No to the Whitwick Manor Anaerobic Digesters

Whitwick Manor AD, Lower Eggleton, Ledbury, Herefordshire, HR8 2UE | Planning ref 222728/N

This applicant has made a third submission in support of his application (P222728/N) for a huge industrial anaerobic digester at Whitwick Manor, in rural Herefordshire. We need your help to object again! by 16th November 2024, to stop this potentially dangerous, unproven technology and prevent harm to both the environment and human health.

Walking down the Irfon from home down to the Wye this afternoon for our walk into Builth. Can’t believe the weather, cool but glorious sunshine with the rivers looking good. Dippers and Grey Wagtails active on both around the rocks in the faster water.

Today, Wildlife Trust Wales presented at the Welsh Rivers Summit in Cardiff, attended by the First Minister for Wales. Our rivers across Wales, such as the River Wye, are dying, and urgent action, particularly on farm pollution, is needed to save them 🌊💧

Thank you @CatherineFookes "As the Chancellor said last week, we were left a toxic legacy by the previous Government, including rivers filled with polluted waste. Will the Prime Minister put the River Wye into special measures by designating it a water protection zone /

@CatherineFookes / and will he meet me and the excellent cross-border Wye Catchment Partnership to deliver its plan to clean up the Wye?"

PM "I will ensure that my hon. Friend gets a meeting with the relevant Minister."
