About the event

Save the Wye presents ‘Riversong’

This is the first of several events that Save the Wye friends Mollie Meager and Rachel Bomford are organising to bring attention to our dying river Wye.

Mollie: “Our intention as part of the Festival of Words is to tell the story of the wye in words, poems, song and film. We still hope it is possible to save the river if action is taken now.

I am an activist and part of Extinction Rebellion which is not just about climate change but focuses on local issues too. And this issue affects so many of us. Our events will bring people to the river to celebrate its beauty, mourn the abuse she is suffering and find ways to make a difference!”

Artists Carolyn Black. Sharon Foley and Dorota Dufort will talk about work they have done relating to rivers and climate change. There will be short films from Bernard Walton and Redbrook youth club, poetry from Jane Spray and many other local poets, including John Homewood and the Forest and Wye Valley poets. There will be songs from local musicians, all who feel passionately about the destruction of our waters and land. Annie Brennan will link it all together through her music.
