
Join Friends of the Upper Wye at the Hay Festival where they’ll will be sharing information, data, maps, photography and art about the crisis on the River Wye. The Hay Festival runs from 25th May to 4th June.
On Wednesday 31 May, from 2-4pm, there will be a special free pop-up event, explaining the causes of the Wye’s demise and exploring ways we could restore the river to health – with an incredible line-up of guest speakers including:
- A brief summary of the crisis and presentation of the latest data collected by our citizen scientists.
- Counting Chickens: CPRW_UK and Alison Caffyn will present their latest calculations and map the intensive poultry units in the Wye catchment.
- Poet Robert Minhinnick will conjure up water-crowfoot with his words
- Barristers JolyonMaugham (founder of @GoodLawProject) & Alex Goodman (@workofanhour) will present their legal cases on behalf of the Wye
- Journalist Oliver Bulloughwill discuss how designated bathing areas can bring cleaner rivers.
- Wild swimmer Angela Jones will share her perspective from under the surface & lessons from her campaigning
- Multimedia researcher Peter Brooks will talk us through the supply chain of the intensive poultry industry
- Journalist and film maker Nicola Cutcher will examine what lessons we could learn from the Illinois River in Oklahoma
- Poet James Roberts (@nightriverwood) will read for the Wye
- Speakers from Radnorshire Wild Life Trust will champion natural solutions to clean up the river
- Regenerative farmer (Regenben) will make the compelling case for river-friendly farming
- PLUS potential surprises along the way!
